Is riding a bicycle in London safe for tourists?

We understand that tourists often have concerns about cycling safety in a major, bustling metropolis like London. Our perspective is that cycling in London, particularly when guided by our team, is comparable in safety to walking on the pavement. This assertion is based on the significant safety measures we implement and the continuous improvements in the city's infrastructure

A key advantage of joining our tours is the presence of our experienced tour guides. Our guides are intimately familiar with London's streets, traffic patterns, and potential hazards. They actively look out for situations and obstacles that a visitor unfamiliar with the city might not notice, thus preemptively mitigating danger.

Mandatory Safety Gear and Pre-tour safety briefing to ensure the highest level of safety for our clients, we insist that all participants wear a cycle helmet. This is a non-negotiable safety protocol designed to provide an extra layer of protection. While we must be realistic—we cannot guarantee that a bicycle will never fall over—we are absolutely committed to leading your group safely and responsibly through the city. We think cycling is an exceptionally rewarding and safe way to navigate London, offering a unique and intimate view of the capital. Thanks to London's expanding network of cycleways and quieter back streets, you can cover more ground than walking while remaining outdoors and immersed in the city's lively atmosphere.
Our tours prioritise these safe corridors and back streets. When it is necessary to cross a main road to connect parts of our route, these sections are managed with extreme caution and clear guidance from our experienced leaders, that might require a short dismount and walk.

With our expert guidance and the city's improved cycling infrastructure, tourists can confidently and safely enjoy exploring London on two wheels.

Which is the best bike tour for me?

If it’s your first time in London, we recommend the Classic Gold Tour or the Total E-London Tour to help you see the main highlights. If you’re looking for a mix of history and modern London vibes, the Love London Tour is a great option. For something a little less touristy but still rich in modern history, the Original Bike Tour or the Destination London Tour are both great choices. For something more unique, you can try our Sunset Tour or book a Private Tour, which is especially suitable for families with children under 10

Can I still join if I don’t ride a bike?

If you can’t ride a bike, our guided bike tours unfortunately won’t be suitable, as all guests need to be confident riding in traffic and on public roads in London.  You’re still very welcome to explore London with us by joining one of our walking tours instead.

Our walking tours are a great alternative, offering a relaxed way to discover the city’s landmarks, history, and hidden gems on foot with an expert guide.

Are bikes provided?

Yes, we provide comfortable, well-maintained traditional bicycles for all guests. Our traditional Dutch-style bikes are designed for comfort and easy riding. With an upright seating position, they offer great balance and a relaxed cruising experience. The seats are fully adjustable, making them suitable for riders of different heights, including shorter cyclists.

You can also choose to upgrade to an e-bike for an additional fee, for an even easier and more effortless ride around London.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes, helmets are required. We provide them free of charge for all guests. Wearing a helmet is a condition of our insurance when taking part in a tour in London.
